Application to
empatheias (DR3 spoilers, especially Side: Future)
Character: Kyosuke Munakata
Age: Approximately 23-25; he doesn't have a specific age given in canon, but he's from the graduating class four years ahead of the Dangan Ronpa 1 cast.
Canon: Dangan Ronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak Academy
Canon Point: Side: Future | Episode 5 - After hearing who the attacker is in the Final Killing Game
Background: Munakata on the DR wiki
Personality: At his core, Kyosuke Munakata is a strong-minded, determined individual who will put all his strength behind a goal once he has made up his mind. Ambitious and charismatic, he entered Hope's Peak Academy as the Ultimate Student Council President, and graduated with two steadfast friends--Chisa Yukizome and Juzo Sakakura. Their continued communication and teamwork after leaving high school are a testament to the kind of bond that Kyosuke inspires in others, even when they are separated by distance and different projects. (Specifically, Kyosuke continues talking to and receiving reports from Chisa and Juzo as they work on the campus of Hope's Peak, even when he is managing a construction project overseas.) Eloquent and hard-working, his ambition is best shown in the progress he makes in his projects; only a few years after graduating from Hope's Peak, he was already in the process of building a second campus, in hopes of taking over the main body of the academy. Similarly, in the few years after being recruited into the Future Foundation, he made his way to vice-leader of the entire organization with a goal to eventually usurp Kazuo Tengan.
He strongly believes that his decided path is the correct one, as shown in how he combats Makoto Naegi over the nature of hope and despair. His refusal to back down against Makoto speaks to experience in defending his ideals, recognizing the potential in his opponents and still managing to compliment them while they disagree. Despite this, he also admits that Makoto's potential can make him doubt his own beliefs, and he does eventually give up on his flawed way of thinking after it becomes clear he is wrong and in denial of that fact.
Most of the time, he tries to make his decisions from a place of logic and emotional distance, as he doesn't want his bias leading to mistakes. This is seen in how he has the other branch leaders vote for who they believe the traitor is, even with the killing game hanging over their heads. However, the long war against Ultimate Despair and the chaos of the world have changed Kyosuke's outlook, making him more cynical and emotionally driven to eliminate despair, regardless of the actual reasonability of that action. Prior to the Tragedy, Kyosuke is shown much more hopeful and positive with his ideals, believing that--with Chisa and Juzo at his side--he can make Hope's Peak Academy and the entire world a much better place.
Having seen the destruction made by the depths of despair and the missteps of hope, Kyosuke blames the state of the world on Junko Enoshima, her cohorts, and despair in general. His hatred of despair, in several instances shown bolstered by Chisa's apparent sorrow, overrides his logic and leads him to making extreme decisions, such as sending a fleet to destroy the Remnants of Despair and attacking his former companions when he believes they are also Remnants of Despair. While he doesn't know it, his increasingly radical decisions and anger are being used by Chisa to send him into deep, maddening despair.
Though it's difficult to see past his role as an aloof leader, Kyosuke is still human. He can look past others' mistakes to see the good they can do, as seen when he offers to help Seiko Kimura, despite her expulsion from Hope's Peak. He cares deeply for Chisa and Juzo, putting great trust in them and allowing their words to override his own suspicions and doubts. For example, when Chisa and Juzo clear Junko of wrongdoing, Kyosuke decides to believe them and stop pursuing her as a suspect. He also relies on them when he questions himself, as shown when he meditates on the words he had wanted to ask Chisa: "I am not wrong, am I?" His strong feelings for Chisa in particular open him up to sorrow and despair, as seen when Tengan criticizes his decisions and uses Chisa's death as an example of his wrong path; mentioning Chisa in such a way drives Kyosuke to attack Tengan in a blind rage, only startled out of it by blood spraying from Tengan's hands. He's only able to begin recovering from his despair by allowing himself to grieve for Chisa, instead of rationalizing her death as a catalyst for more violence.
Abilities: Like others recruited into Hope's Peak, Kyosuke was an 'Ultimate' -- a high schooler who has been shown extremely adept at a talent. His talent, as the Ultimate Student Council Present, is somewhat obscure, but seems to culminate in a natural ability at oration, persuasion, leadership, project management, and charisma. He knows how to command attention, as shown when he cuts through the bickering discussion of the other branch leaders with a comment and then stands on the conference table. As a Future Foundation branch head, he's put in charge of all construction and development of new organization buildings. He's also considerably intelligent, shown in how he thinks ahead even in the middle of the killing game; soon after the game begins, he comes to a possible endgame result with the traitor using Makoto to spread despair in the name of hope.
Even before the Tragedy and the resulting fighting, Kyosuke is shown capable of hand-to-hand fighting; though it's not shown where he's learned his skills, it's likely a result of being close friends with Juzo, the Ultimate Boxer. As an adult, he is shown fighting with a katana with enough skill to fend off Peko Pekoyama, the Ultimate Swordswoman. His skill with the katana is so honed that he can deflect small darts fired from Tengan's mechanical propulsion weapon. When powered by adrenaline, Kyosuke's strength is shown to be enough to break through the Great Gozu's guard, even with Gozu's height and weight difference. Though he wields his katana with two hands for the majority of the Future Arc, he is also shown capable of using two katanas simultaneously when he knows he is going against numerous opponents at once.
He shows great confidence in the limits of his body, as shown when he drops through a destroyed floor to follow after a fleeing Makoto and company, and also when he slides across the floor to slice through the Miaya Gekkogahara robot's legs. He's shown to be deft and somewhat acrobatic, dodging Tengan's darts and even flipping out of the way to avoid getting hurt. He also seems to adapt well on the battlefield; when he loses an eye, he continues fighting without apparently being hampered by the lack of depth perception, and he gathers items from his slain companions to better survive against perceived threats.
Alignment: Piphron. Though Kyosuke also believes strongly in hope and despair, and is currently greatly affected by anger, his core personality relies on a basis of trust. As a leader delegating tasks, he has to be able to inspire trust and confidence, while also putting his own trust in others to be responsible for their own actions. His despair-induced madness is also rooted in distrust, as he is blatantly told by Tengan that anyone in the game can be the killer.
Other: While I do believe he best fits under Piphron, I'm also aware he's on the verge of falling into despair at his canon point. I'm really not sure how to reconcile that with the alignments.
